Health Awareness Project

Our Goal:
To raise awareness of the off reserve Aboriginal health issues and build a relationship with the District Health Authorities by liaising with various Health Care Workers and or volunteers.
To develop a resource guide from the information on the database to be made available to the off reserve Mi’kmaq Aboriginal people of NS and any other interested parties to increase the awareness of availability.
To develop a final report of the outcomes of the needs assessment and distribute this report to the partners of the Aboriginal Health Awareness project, District Health
Authorities and Department of Health. It will also be available to all off reserve Mi’kmaq Aboriginal people of Nova Scotia.
To develop a database of Health Programs, agencies, clinics and services that is available across the province.
Serving:
Off reserve Mi’kmaq/Aboriginal people in Nova Scotia.
How We Help:
Assessing the unique health issues and concerns of the off reserve Mi’kmaq/Aboriginal peoples in Nova Scotia, and informs on the needs on health programs and services
at the district and department levels.
Provide an easier and more complete navigation of the Health Care System in Nova Scotia for the off reserve Mi’kmaq/Aboriginal peoples. By providing this type of program we are expecting long term interactions of the health care system.
Provide access to information as the health clinics and services are available to the province. Accomplishing a database of all health services and clinics in the province and making this information available to all off reserve Mi’kmaq/Aboriginal peoples in Nova Scotia.
