Aboriginal Diabetes Awareness Program (ADAP)

Aboriginal Diabetes Awareness Program (ADAP)

Our Goal:

Our goal is to raise awareness and educate off Reserve Aboriginal Peoples throughout Nova Scotia regarding diabetes prevention.

Serving:

All off reserve and non status Native People of Nova Scotia.

How We Help:

The Diabetes Facilitator conducts Wellness Sessions and Participation Sessions on various diabetes prevention related topics throughout the province. These sessions may include label reading tours at the grocery stores, cooking classes and other related skills development sessions.

The Diabetes program also has a resource lending library, available in Truro, Liverpool and Sydney. This library contains information, DVD’s, cookbooks and other resource guidebooks about diabetes.

The Diabetes Elder and Youth Conference is held annually in order to maintain connections between the two age groups, as it relates to diabetes education.

Additional literature is always available from the Diabetes Facilitator upon request.

The Diabetes Program also has a regular submission to the Taliaq Newsletter which outlines basic information on diabetes prevention.
